  For a takeaway that I remember visiting over 40 years ago the 1040 has survived extremely well with excellent quality in service and food

  Clean and tidy premises. Good takeaway food at a competitive price. Would definitely recommend.

  Not a bad chipper! The Chinese meals are legit, that buffet is awesome - 'tip: get there a bit later on and some nights they give you a large container for the price of a small'. Old Edgware takeaways down the road are a bit better in general, but these guys are really solid.

  1040 specializes in gluten free fish and chips, something very difficult to find in Christchurch as a celiac. Most places share their friers or oil between gluten free and non-gluten free food, making it not safe to eat. 1040 splits all their gluten/non-gluten foods apart and prepares them as safe as possible - and it's amazing. Usually you can tell something is gluten free by the taste or texture etc. but their fish and chips are identical to regular fish and chips (and the chicken nuggets might be even better!). They also do burgers with actually normal looking buns (and not that awful gluten free toast stuff many use) and all their batters taste and appear exactly like regular fish and chips! Definitely the go-to for gluten free fish and chips in Christchurch in the future.

  Good Fish and Chips. Also does Chinese. Which is delicious. Separate Fryers used for Gluten free. Great care is taken. Never had an issue with ordering gluten free and normal.
