Should be told about the $750.00 prior to getting the car. Wouldn’t accept a debit card and only a credit card, what a joke. extremely unreasonable and unsupportive business. Stay away from here and rent a car somewhere else. Ended up an extra $300.00 dollars out of pocket because of this! Avoid at all costs.

Simple and fast pick-up. Farther from terminal building so have to walk within 5 mins. I got an old Toyota Rav4 car with more than 120.000km, no parking sensor and no parking/ rear view camera, this was out of my expectation. No one-way drop off fee from Queenstown to Christchurch.

Car (Toyota Rav4) ran well. Appears fairly new and clean, minimal damage on pickup, it's nice that they send you photos on pickup of the car for your own records. 83k kilometers on pickup. No issues so far, it gets the job done. I opted to go for the full coverage package, given that it's my first time driving on the left side of the road. After I paid in full for the car and insurance, I noticed a sign hanging on the wall, with a table regarding different credit cards brands (Visa, Mastercard etc.) having different sorts of insurance coverage and different bond amounts. (They especially emphasized what was NOT covered so you'd still opt in to pay Ace more to cover the car. In fact, if you read closely there is a script down at the bottom for what the employees should say to a customer who wants to rely on the CC's included insurance coverage). I hadn't previously known about this. When i asked the employee about what this was, she was rather dismissive, and said "it's your card you should know what sort of coverage you have". Fair enough, but perhaps don't hang a sign on the wall that you supposedly have no clue about? Certainly not her responsibility to know all of the insurance coverage details from a third party CC, but she certainly wasn't being honest regarding knowing nothing about the chart. This just rubbed me the wrong way, as it felt deceptive. I think she feared I would opt back out of the coverage that her counterpart had just sold me, which wasn't my intent. I know this is part of the business model to sell the highest price insurance coverage. However, being deceptive and claiming to know nothing about a sign that you hung in your own shop isn't necessarily a way to win repeat customers.

terrible experience with Visa Debit cards. would not take a deposit of $750 (which is extremely high already) but instead charge you extra $5 per day to waive it? what is the reason for you to have a deposit in the first place. that is to truck people to pay more for their rentals... never happened with AVIS or Budget. stay ware.

It's probably the worst location I've tried with Ace - there was the stress of the plane not landing because of wind, so it was half hour late and quite stressful with getting to ACE rental cars before they closed. I called the rental office from Wellington airport and the girl had zero friendliness which is a shame because she was much better in person. I would recommend that she work on her telephonist skills. She definitely added stress to the trip. There is a $60 late fee which you can bypass if you pick up the car the next day during opening hours. I'm reluctant to book again with ACE since that experience and I travel quite a lot.
