Friendly staff and great location spoiled by an unusually high percentage of surly privileged teenagers pretending they are poor, sulking around the halls and lying literally on the floors. Not even that cheap. Ensuite facilities good though. Advertises free WiFi but 1.5mb/s isn’t anything to rave about.

Don't bother staying here if you're just passing through. I'm sure it's fine if you are working as these people are all that the hostel caters for. Forget about fridge space, sofa space, kitchen space. All taken over by long term residents. Forget about meeting anyone new as well as they all stick together. For example, at one point there was some sort of scavenger hunt organised that nobody else seemed to know about. They were running around the kitchen and up the stairs whilst we were trying to cook looking for clues. Looked like fun but we weren't invited. The rooms were laughable. So so small. We were left with two top bunks. One of the top bunks had the ladder facing the wall meaning that you had to use your neighbours ladder to climb up and then climb over the sides of the bunk bed to get in. Dangerous. We complained about the issue and a lovely woman at Reception tried her best to solve it. She had said that nobody else had complained about this and rung around other hostels to see if she could move us. No availability so she asked someone who was already in our room if they would move to the top bunk and they agreed. The kitchen is far too small for the amount of people in this hostel. The main problem is the lack of worktop space. Just don't bother going in during normal breakfast, lunch and dinner hours. Your best off just eating at random points of the day where the kitchen MIGHT be free. The fridges were a joke as they were all taken over by long term guests. We had to squish what we had bought from the supermarket (20 minute walk away) into a tiny space that we made ourselves. The kitchen was also being cleaned at 12pm when I wanted to make lunch. It had a chain across the entrance so you can't use it at all. The wifi is ridiculous. It's free yes but it might aswell not exist. You'll have to sit in the corridor to use it and it's NOT strong enough to FaceTime home anyway. When they say that they have comfy beanbags, they are most of the time used by long term guests and are all squished into tiny corners around the hostel; that's not a selling point. The only real saving grace of this hostel is the Reception staff as they are really helpful and also the view from the terrace is nice, but that's also the smoking area and there's always people smoking out there. Also, very overpriced compared to other hostels in NZ. So overall, find somewhere else.

Nice hostel, but the kitchen is too small. And like every working hostel in Tauranga its really expensive. Even in a long-term dorm you pay around $26 a night. Good thing is, they organized me a job very fast and they even have their own Hostel-Van provided for workers. Free Bikes to rent. Good locations, but there is no supermarket around.

Quite expensive for a hostel $185-200 per person per week. This is the loudest hostel I've been to, and sometimes it's the staff that's loud, not just guests passing though. Internet doesn't reach into the rooms, and kitchen is always busy, girls bathroom was quite dirty compared to other places I've been. Rooms were cleanish. Plus side is a great view, wonderful staff, eager to help you find work, and nearby restaurants and water.
