Too stingy with the Wi-Fi, lodging options less than desirable, and poor email communication. Other than that, great guide drivers who put safety above all. They take you to wonderful natural spots to enjoy life. New Zealand is a beautiful corner of our world that awaits to explore it from North to South. I did their three week tour, which gave me a pretty good idea of its natural and pristine environment.

Guys please please save your time and money and don’t use this service. Buy a bus pass. The guides are wonderful people but management is horrific. I was lied to on pricing told this was one of the cheapest options available for buses and I would pay heaps more to get a flexi pass. I paid $450 USD more than a bus pass and $150 USD more than everyone on my bus with the same pass. Completely scammed.. I then got sick and needed to return home. I was told partial refunds are issued by two representatives and to follow up with a supervisor. Emails have been quite cold and offer no help plus there seemed to be some miscommunication on what I was asking. However, there’s no way to speak to anyone about it on the phone and it takes days to get an email response. It’s been very unprofessional and truly feels as though they just want to suck money out of you. Backpackers please stay clear!!! As a traveler on a tight budget this is completely heartbreaking. I would also like to add that since posting my review on both here and FB I have received a response on FB that took words of mine (from emails) to try and justify the poor service I experienced. It was rather patronizing and unprofessional considering I had not even received final email correspondence yet. It tried to say that several team members had said things to me, however, part of my complaint is that it seems impossible to contact anyone. So aside from the lies I was told on pricing, protocol, etc they then publicly lied on how they assisted me. Really disappointing.

I just finished my south and sound trip with kiwi experience, the good thing about it is that you only have to bring yourself in and don’t need to worry about accommodations and activity booking. But it is also and bad point of it, the accommodations they offer are usually a small dorm with no free WiFi so I booked YHA as possible as I can. The activity booking through them are not as competitive as they said in the store. Also they stopped at some strange point that personally I am not happy with, Kaiteriteri and hotel Mahinapua. They are at the middle of nowhere and both day we didn’t even drive very far. About the drivers, some of them often shouted F word or similar words when they got passed or they found the car driving in front of them is slow which I do not appreciate, mane it’s the kiwi style? But the Hamish who drove me most of the trip is quite nice as he remembers almost everyone’s name although I didn’t speak to him much. I can feel that he is passionate about his job. After all, I would say it’s an interesting experience with kiwi experience but I will not do it again or recommend someone about it.

There are many positive but also negative things to say about my 2 month long Kiwi Experience.. i give them 3,5 of 5 + (my opinions) 1. if you travel alone you meet alot of new interesting people from around the world. Some will stay friends for a life time 2. the Bus drivers are very helpful, even if you can't speak english very good like me...;) and they also give alot of informations about where we go, the history of new zealand, great places for cheap food... Chapeau, you're amazing 3. you get reduced prices for hostels, vouchers   and cheaper tickets for many things, because they work together with hostels... 4. You always can decide between partying, getting wasted and have a nice silent night at a beautiful beach.. It's not only a Party Bus. You can decide. 5. Only two words... amazing nature - (my opinion) 1. In January and February it's not a Hop-on Hop-off Bus because you have to pre-book at least 2 weeks. Specially if you don't travel alone. If you don't do it, you are in the standby list. So you can't do spontaneously decisions. 2. some hostels are dirty.. very dirty, but you get used to it (there are also many nice and clean, specially the little hostels) And they only guarantee you ONE night in the hostel. 3. You do a lot of hikes and the kiwi bus drives to nature parks too, but i would prefer less city activities and more hikes. I want to see the nature and not only the city. They skipped many beautiful places.. That's why i traveled with the intercity bus too. Like to Kaikoura... It's on the map but the don't drive there at the moment. Wrong infos!!! 4. the busses are fridges.. too cold 5. I lost something in another hostel and asked kiwi if they could pick it up from the reception or tell someone in the hostel to pick it up... Kiwi was like, hmm we don't do that sry. I was a little bit disappointed.

Kiwi Experience representatives lied to me several times and promised to make up for it and then lied and said they never said that. I booked the bus in a couple places and it did not come for me even though they confirmed several times that they would. Horrible experience to talk to the lying representatives. Shady and unorganized company and zero professionalism. They only care about the money, not their clients. They made me lose money, time and a relaxing experience due to their representatives' lack of class, professionalism and respect for clients. New Zealand is beautiful, the people are amazing. There are great things about the Kiwi Bus and I of course had a great time but their representatives have a lot to work on.
