  Extremely friendly and helpful owners. Good food decently priced. Beautiful gardens. Many cool things in the little shop. Lots of toys and games. Even a little playground. Our kids loved it.

  Lovely grounds and it was great that the owners give grain to feed the ducks. Food was good. The owner was very polite and helpful.

  Very friendly and helpful people... Cafe team made a special effort to cater for a member of our group who required gluten free food... Sensibly priced meals and snacks.

  In A Nutshell: -The Lignite Pit Cafe & Secret Garden is located virtually in the middle of nowhere it seems. -Only a blue highway sign w/ a coffee cup silouette gives any indication of it's existence (and of course Trip Advisor, Google & now Yelp). -From the outside it doesn't seem like much, until you see the serene garden/pond in the distance behind the building. -Inside you are welcomed in. -There is a menu to order some homecooked meals (see photos below). -There is also a gift shop & many funny signs & a bit of "lignite pit" history. -After eating try taking a walk around the scenic garden, it's very well maintained. Overall, if you like supporting local & want to experience a low-key, slow-pace of New Zealand life you should come check this place out :)
