Everything is so amazing here! The service, coffee and food. So wonderful to have a cafe that can take me in when I’m missing NYC.

1 star for ambiance/deco. 1 star for selection. Agree with other review that staff here are haughty...not kiwi like at all. Caution. If you get a pie take away, make sure you order without pickles or you will open the box later to find it sitting in pickle juice and soggy. Extremely salty lamb pie. Disappointing. I've had pies all over New Zealand from proper bakeries.

Pies to die for. Really helpful staff. I had a peculiar request and they were happy to help. Nice story location in the center of the city. Good beer choices too.

The place looks very appealing from the outside on a warm sunny day. We came in for a late afternoon lunch around 1:30 pm and approached the counter to see what was on offer. The dude at the counter asked if we were there for takeout or dine in, dine in we said. He advised us to take a seat and they'll be right with us. Now when they say that you'd expect them to follow you out with water and menu. Well not here. The place was pretty empty but 10 minutes later we were left sitting there not knowing what was happening while staff busied themselves behind the counter filling water jugs. Finally we had a menus and we should have ordered right then and there as it was another 10-15 minutes before they came back to take our order. Finally, 2 pies and a bowl of deli fries along with a couple 6 Barrel Soda Colas. While I love a Reuben sandwich, something that they seem to portray as a signature dish, their's does not resemble a Reuben at all... A Reuben does not have pastrami, nor coleslaw. Oh well. Food finally arrived and the poor waitress didn't know which was the lamb and which was the venison pie, we managed to figure out fairly quickly by popping the tops. The deli fries, were pretty good, fires with gravy and pastrami, and apparently cheese (was kinda like they just thought like cheese was on there, no evidence) although the pastrami was dried out tough.... The pies were decent. At the end of the day $40 odd dollars for semi alright pies and fries - can get better at select bakeries around Wellington. Probably won't be back. Thanks for reading.

Disappointed with our brunch at Pickle and Pie.. It certainly didn't live up to its reputation. Firstly, why stop your breakfast menu at 11? Wellingtonians love all day breakfast. Having to order from the lunch menu at 11:15, I chose the Reuben, and with no Earl Grey tea available, went for a green tea. Although the service was quick, the sandwich was neither an authentic Reuben nor accurately described on the menu. A proper New York style Reuben should be grilled, and the Swiss cheese should be melted slices, not a weird cheese sauce (a fact omitted in the menu). The whole thing was soggy and disappointing, with no flavour contrast - totally dominated by the heavily salted pastrami. No apology or recompense was offered after the waitress noticed my half eaten sandwich and I explained it wasn't what I expected. If you're going to serve a classic with a twist, describe it accurately, otherwise, stick to the winning formula! We won't be back.
