  The staff at the George would not have been blamed for feelings of trepidation when a group of 30 international rugby travellers arrived at the hotel as part of the golden oldies tournament. But over the past 6 days of our stay the courteous, warm and professional staff have gone above and beyond in making our stay in Christchurch an experience to remember.

  Excellent service! Very pleasant walk to the city centre and very close to the art centre. We were offered coffee and snacks at check in and got it delivered to our room, very nice! The room has good amenities and comfortable bed.

  ZERO stars (if the option was available) Completely rude staff, right from the entrance. As soon as I parked my vehicle inside their premises, the watchman came down yelling at me in an intimidating way saying that they would toll my car. Only upon telling him that I was visiting my friend who was a guest in "The George", the watchman allowed me in. He didn't even have the courtesy to apologize for his rude behavior. Except for the pleasant view beside Avon river .. food and service ok ok .. nothing worth a five star hotel. Would never recommend anyone to this place nor would go back there again. Felt embarrassed !!

  Had a lovely meal at 50 Bistro for my daughter's 21st was so full of flavor, my husband had the best sirloin steak ever, my duck was divine, pork was delicious and dessert was scrumptious. Stephanie was our waitress and she was very good.
