  The people are the only thing that kept me in the hostel... everything about the hostel itself was terrible. The hostel owners (not managers) are horrible to deal with. When checking out I was told that the 20 dollar bond I paid in the beginning would not be given back to me because she “thought” that I didn’t pay it and that the transaction records were “on a different book” than the current hostel records book. Ultimately having to show her my bank statement as proof of bond payment. Also on multiple occasions they would come into the hostel yelling and cursing at each other and guests, creating a threatening environment for the paying customers. I would not recommend this hostel for anyone looks for work in Blenheim. I would recommend that the hostel is shut down due to the owner’s unprofessionalism.

  DO NOT STAY HERE. If I could give it zero stars, I would. This place is a hurricane of unprofessionalism. The owners are pitiful excuses for adults and do not see their gusts as people. The hostel is always over capacity with “bodies” that have to share three showers and two refrigerators. For me, it was not worth it to pay over $126 a week... in Blenheim you can pay $4 more for your own room. Additionally, no free WiFi and the washing machines smell of mold and the tears of backpackers. I was a manger for two months and was blown away by how much chaos ensued... constantly. The guest records are never shredded and since the whole system is on paper, that means there is months of credit card numbers, passport pictures and person information just laying around. The owner’s husband had several fits of range where he yelled, cursed and kicked things over in front of guests... not an environment I was comfortable being in. Overall, the hostel is relatively clean, the people are great and the experience is what you make it but if you can go elsewhere, please do.

  We arrived there for a vineyard job, everything looked good, friendly people and a nice hostel, so we checked in for a week. The owner Karen promised us 6 days of work a week, but that turned out to be a lie. Despite perfect weather we only worked for 7 hours in one week. The work she promised us doesn't exist, we only got our contracts after asking for them 3-4 times (she had them all along but withheld them for some reason, we also had to print them at our own exspense), no information about anything - just super shady and unreliable. Don't trust the owner, don't come here!
