::I was served by David who was polite and helpful. My experience of Avis car hire was excellent on North and South Islands - a surprise - and something branches in other countries could learn from

::Rude, slow and careless. 2 days after returning a vehicle there was 'apparently' some damage to the front bumper not noticed at the time of return. Thanks to AMEX for stepping in.
Sage Brenner
::Helpful staff but the line was very long and not handled well.

::Please avoid renting a car from this place if possible. When I rented a car from them they asked me to sign a form which indicated there was no chargable damage on the car. But they didn't even show me the car before I signed. I had many good experiences with rental car companies so I believed what they wrote. When I returned the car the next day, they found a scratch near the rear tyre and pushed me to write an accident report and charged me $345 (when you pay extra $30~40/day to reduce excess fee, the new excess fee is $300. Be aware this is without GST and the actual amount is $345). I am 100% sure there were no accidents and I didn't bump into anything. It seems like this is one of their strategies to make extra money. I found a number of reviews similar to mine. Just google avis rental car reviews (rankers website). Please check thoroughly before you rent a car from them, take photos and get the rental person to look around the car with you before signing because if there is even a small scratch on the car (before you rent it out) and you sign the no chargable damage form they will blame you and charge you when you return the car.
