  Had a 2 night stay at Birchwood Spa Motel in Rotorua we found it a bit tired looking. Floor in bathroom needs attention especially around the edges, a bit more attention to detail with cleaning needed. Did not feel like a 4 star motel for the price we paid. Linen was clean and changed everyday. Spa was hot so enjoyed that. Tv quite small.

  Reception lady spoke no English, was speaking to a man over the phone just to check in and I felt like I needed to tell them what to do. Room low to average quality very dated and mouldy in a lot of places. 1 parking space per room even the very big apartments. Had to park on the side street. Stale and melted lollies left in the room as complementary items. Then left the motel and someone else had parked in our allocated space which was annoying. Overall I won't be returning here.

  Enjoyable stay with a pretty large jetted tub. Really good price for the quality and service. Staff was really nice as well.

  This review relates to Unit #2. When I made a booking I didn’t even check reviews because I stayed there a couple of times 2 years back BUT when I arrived I realised that the management changed. When we walked in the unit I was shocked to see how dirty the unit was. There was dust on bedside tables, even in the phone ( see the photo) and oily crumbs in the kitchen floor corners as you can see in the photos! We had to clean it to feel ok!!! The next day they forgot to clean our room. The following day I requested that they vacuum and wet clean the floor. They said they did but it was as dirty as before! The following day they just replaced the towels and wiped the basin and that’s it!! I don’t know their standard but it is only 2 1/2 stars. It is NOT a 4 star motel anymore and I won’t be staying their again! The management really needs to raise their standard of service and learn to smile in the first place and ask questions like, how can we make your stay more pleasant!

  Nice location, 10 minute walk from Maori village. However, the resort is a dimming star, furniture is old, rooms and facilities are not clean, had spiders in the room. Floor was slightly sticky, had some holes in one of the walls. Not recommended without own sleeping bag or liner on hand. The "spa" is just a bath tub with a tap just outside of the room, I bought my own clorine based bath cleaning spray and washed the entire tub before using it. I did not cook inside with their pots and pans, I did not consider it to be clean enough. I was also billed one extra night shortly after departure because the staff didn't communicate with each other, got it refunded relatively quick though. Definitely not recommended unless you get it for a cheap price or as a last resort.
