  After lugging my Cannondale Slate all the way from Australia, I found I had a damaged component (the insert in the front axle's exit thread). It was a non-standard size so I had no luck in Bunnings, Repco and Mitre 10. I figured you miss 100% of the shots you never take, so emailed two bike shops including Burkes as Google said they stocked Cannondale, hoping for a minor miracle. Brent Hoy from Burkes responded quickly, and unlike the other bike store, replied to my following queries to tell me they had the part and were pretty confident they could fix it. His chief mech Ben Marklew, despite a busy day, took pity on my situation and fixed it efficiently on the spot, explaining and showing what he was doing. Rest of the staff were super friendly too. Knowledge, skills and customer service = outstanding.

  I have used Burkes a few times over the years, but they have really dropped the ball on their online service. I ordered a rim from them which showed available online, and nothing turned up for a week. When i chased them up (they sent no tracking info) i got one line back saying "the rim is on order" - nothing else, no advice of when it might come or when i could expect it. With no idea of when i could expect it, i have had to cancel the order and get from elsewhere - this would have been good to know earlier rather than losing a weeks time. This is poor service and communication - i will not be using Burkes in the future.

  I'd just like to share some feedback from my son Finn. We dropped his bike off with you guys for a day last week, ahead of the Makara Creek to Peak event. He had been struggling with the chain bouncing off - and we'd tried just about everything to fix the problem with no luck. You manufactured a custom chain guard which worked perfectly - and got a good test on the day. Finn's is thrilled with the result and asked me to ensure you got the message that you are bunch of legends.
