::Thank you Salt n Batter Dome Street for excellent service and fish n chips absolutely tops. New owners have the recipe right equally as good as original owners.

::Used to be the best fish and chip shop in town. Now under new management, not quite the same. Tonight I ordered one fish and a scoop of chips. Pretty simple order to be honest. However, my order had somehow been given a name that wasn't mine and had been given to someone else. The cashier and I only realised this when the other fellow came back after a while and said that he'd been given the wrong order. Anyway, the cashier apologised and offered to make a new order, which I accepted. After 5-10 minutes, one of the staff cooking asked if they were remaking my order, to which I said yes - that it had been given to someone else and had come back after 15-20 minutes or so. But then he asked me what was wrong with it. Personally, I'm not too fond of cold, soggy food that someone else has potentially taken a bite of! But no, I didn't say that. What I did say was that I don't know what was wrong with it (as I'd not actually seen it), only that it had been given to someone else and that they had offered me to make a new one. So he went back into the kitchen and continued making orders for everyone. Sadly, as customers came and went, I was still sitting there. It seemed like the staff had left my order until last and I left approximately 50 minutes after I walked into the shop. I can't help but think that customer-focused service isn't what drives everyone working there, which is again sad considering the reputation that Salt and Batter has previously had. But wait, there's more! After bringing the food home to my wife (as I was not, in fact, the intended recipient of this meal), we discovered that the fish batter was a tad on the burned side and tasted like cinammon donuts and the chips were average. To summarize, not somewhere that I would recommend anymore.

::This used to be the 'goto' place many years back. Known for its brilliant greasies. I left invercargill for a number of years and on coming back thought I'd head back to my Dome street haunt. I was disgusted with the feed I got. Overcooked +++. Fat and oil running through the paper. So overcooked myself and my kids couldnt eat it. I will not go back. I didnt think you could stuff a feed of fish and chips up that badly but the fella there certainly found a way. I wish I had taken a photo before I turfed them.
