Probably largest selection of beers, wines and spirits in Auckland, not to mention the well stocked delicatessen and eatery.

We visited Glengarry at the end of a wonderful vacation in NZ to pick up some wines to bring home to Singapore. We had a good idea of what we wanted and we were looking to buy about 2 dozen bottles. We visited on a Sunday and there were about 5 staff and we were the only customers in the store. During the time we were there, there were maybe 2 walk-ins who alos walked out as they were largely ignored. We had a purpose and so decided to stay and get our wines. We asked a young man sitting at the counter about the wines and also about packaging for the plane ride and was greeted with nonchalance. We found the wine we wanted ourselves and then asked him to get us another 4 bottles as there were 2 on the shelf and he took a good 20 minutes to figure that out and to get his butt off the chair to get the stock. By then we had about 12 bottles of wines selected and asked for assistance on packing. He ignored the request and simply walked off , took his back and went home. the only nice person was an elderly lady who went to the basement to get the packaging and when she came back , looked to her colleagues for help as she didn't know how to use the packaging. The packaging was chargeable at NZD25. We said fine but she struggled and then ms Denise came by and she started to very rudely grab the box from her and ramming the bottles into the foam inserts and breaking them all. My husband told her to do it carefully as she's breaking them and she replies " if you are so smart do it yourself" and stomps off. We later gave up with the packaging and said ok let;s just cash the bottles and we will figure it out ourselves. At this point Denise comes back and starts scanning the bottles. She then gets distracted with something and returns and starts scanning them again. We told her she had done it and she looked at us as if we were trying to cheat her and say no please don't confuse me and proceeds to scan them again. She then takes my credit card and charges the bill. By then we were so upset and wanted to get done and get out. i press ok on the machine without checking and when she prints out the charge slip for signature she had keyed for 1 case instead of 1 bottle and the bill was NZD 2000+ vs NZ500!!! At that point we told her to reverse the charge and forget about the whole purchase. She says i can't void the transaction and we will have to wait till Monday and in any case it is your fault to press ok to the charge machine. The gall of it all. We had to make her call her manager Zane who also said he could do nothing. We left with Denise writing on paper we did not take any wines and of course no credit was processed on Monday. It tool a whole week of following up before we got Zane to process the credit. Through out this whole disgusting experience Ms Denise kept saying we were from China and we responded 3 times we were Singaporeans. In any case is there a difference in service if we were indeed from China ? The whole sales team other than the elderly sales person especially Denise were a totally dis engaged team. There is no point having a wide selection and good pricing when your sales team is down right awful and incompetent.Never again to Glengarry
