::I went in for a trim after attempting to cut my own hair at home. I was happy with the length it just kind of looked weird around my face so I just wanted it tidying up a bit. The hairdresser I had that day was a older guy from north England (sorry I cant recall his name) We spoke about where I had cut and agreed on a length and style. He was cutting behind me (as any hairdresser would) so i couldn't see how much he was cutting off but what I did see huge chucks on hair falling to the ground. After I saw this, I asked if I could just confirm how much hair we are cutting off today just in case there was any misunderstanding in the initial consultation. He replied 'well i don't know really' even though he had already started cutting lots of hair? I replied okay.. but my hair will still be up to 'here'? to which he replied yes and carried on cutting. (at this point he then cut the second layer longer as he obviously knew he had messed up. I found this out when I got home. In my understanding the bottom layer is always the longest layer) He then said to me "can I just ask why you want long hair when it feels like chewing gum?" this shocked me.. it really did. I told him that having long hair made me feel confident. I cant remember what he replied to this as I was just in shock. So when he had finished cutting my hair he got a mirror to show me the back and all I could see was the floor because of angle he was holding the mirror at so I brought my hair to the front and basically burst out crying as soon as I saw it. He cut around my face weirdly so there is now a odd bit that doesn't blend in making the entire appointment pointless. The length is what upset me the most. He must have taken about 5" above what we had discussed. My hair took me a very long time to grow. I was happy with the length that I had cut to he told me he was just going to tidy it up. There was a little bit on my right that was slightly shorter than the left. I said I didn't mind that and would like to keep the length. My hair was fairly long so you wouldn't notice small things like that. If in his opinion it would not be possible to tidy up without taking 7" off why not just tell me? Why not say its not possible? why promise me a length that is unachievable? It certainly was achievable.. I think he just messed up. when he said to me that he doesn't know how much hair he is taking off after already cutting says it all. I said to him why did you say my hair would still be up to 'here'?! He replied 'Well.. I don't know what you want me to do with hair like chewing gum" ah.. the good old chewing gum line again. Soooo unprofessional. I don't know how he speak to another person like that and think it is okay? particularly a customer! Why should I have to explain my personal appearance to a stranger.. someone that is carrying out a service. Absolutely appalling.
