::There was a group of 3 of us coming back from the Omakau races we decided to stop at the Lauder Hotel, what a mistake! We walked in the door with no greeting from the owner at the bar, he just started blurting out obscenities like he is going to be charged $10,000 for serving underage people alcohol, and that we were also too intoxicated (I was the sober driver!) my friends had only had a couple of drinks at the races. We presented our ID's, our ages are 24, 30, and 27, he went on that they must be fake! and made us read out our date of births which we proceeded too do he still didn't believe us, stating "that was very well rehearsed". We have never felt so unwelcome and disrespected at a country pub before, I decided to walk out in disgust as this very strange man didn't deserve our money. Instead we went 10 mins down the road to Becks to the Whitehorse Hotel, where we were greeted with a smile and made to feel welcome. We were also enlightened that this strange man from the Lauder Hotel had called all of the pubs in the area, thank god, some people have common sense!

::A great example of a New Zealand pub as it would've been in times past. Simple, friendly and genuine.
