::Great service today at Newtown Shoes 😊 Very helpful, took time to show me several possible options to fit my orthotics, and I walked out with two lovely and comfy pairs of quality leather sandals. I'll be back 😊

::Having posted my review, below, I have since read the other reviews about this business and I notice something very strange. Newtown Shoes Ltd. has replied to various negative reviews with a story about 'what really happened' -- all critical of the shopper. But I note that in a several cases there is a gap of months or even four or five years between the date of the review and the date of the shop's response! Clearly the shop workers are not only willfully ignorant of their obligations under the law, but are also dishonest. How could they identify which customer was which after several years....? I really want to give this business NO STARS. Here is my letter to Newtown Shoes. 19 September 2017 Dear Sir, I visited your shop today with a pair of ankle boots, asking you to repair them as the sole had come away from the upper on the right boot. I told you I had bought the boots in April and that I thought they should last longer. I asked you to repair them. You said they could be repaired but that I would have to pay a small amount. If the sole had come away immediately after my purchasing them, you said, you would accept my complaint, but you said I would have to pay because I had worn the boots. You said if I had walked normally in them, the boot would not have broken. I asked again for you to repair the boot. You repeated I would have to pay a small amount. I said I had paid for the boots and wanted the boot repaired and would not pay for the repair. You said I was “just looking for a freebie”. I said I would make a complaint about you, and you agreed that I should do so. I then left the shop. I believe that by demanding a payment for the repair of the boot, you are in breach of the Consumer Guarantees Act, which requires that goods should be of acceptable quality, fit for purpose and durable. On returning home I looked at the receipt, which is dated 6 May 2017 (not April as I had recalled). The boots were in a sale and I paid $69.90 for them. The sole broke over a week ago, making it just over four months since purchase. Of course I did not wear the boots every day since purchase. My walking gait is within the normal range and I have not had trouble before with shoes breaking because of the way I walk. I think footwear of this type and price should be sufficiently durable as to last more than four-and- a-half months. I have made other arrangements for the repair of the boot but I am very annoyed that you not only declined to meet your obligations under the law (“repair, replace or refund”) but added personal insults about my walking and stated that I wanted “a freebie”, when in fact all I wanted was to have my rights under the law, and to be treated with courtesy. Copies of this letter have been sent to the Citizens’ Advice Bureau, to the Commerce Commission and to the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment.

::Bought a pair of leather women shoes late last year. A young male of Indian extract large built & very rude was in attendance. Very different from the owner who is very pleasant but told he was overseas. The bottom sides (r) of the right pair came apart on Tuesday, 31 January, 2017. This is approx 3 months & a bit of having purchased shoes. Today, the damaged shoe was taken back to the shop with request if it can be fixed. The same young man of Indian extract said that its leather & should not have tear. He then said that it cannot be fixed and to just go and buy superglue and try and fix it that way. Shoddy response for customer service!!😑

::Set up as an old style shoe shop and also smells of leather. Great quality footwear at a fraction of the price! Being an outlet store, it has it's perks and character. Best advise about shoes and feet and also where to get cheap repairs done! Service is casual yet straight to the point. Business owners/cobblers for four generations who definitely know their stuff..! Recommend anyone who wishes to get quality shoes...pity no kids shoes though. Definitely will visit again!!!!

::I went in to Newtown shoes just to see what they had in stock as I was sick of the same old, same old from the major chains around (and the junk they sell at no.1 Shoe Warehouse and the Warehouse).... How pleasantly surprised I was at the vast and varied array of QUALITY shoes they stock, the two Indian fellas in there couldn't help me enough and I walked out with a pair of slippers (yeah I know Grandad ha ha) and an AWESOME pair of sneakers - great quality shoes and awesome prices! The service was great and I'll definitely be going back! - I almost felt like part of the family by the time I left and I would not hesitate to recommend this purveyor of fine footware to ALL my friends and family! Thanks Newtown Shoes!
