  Detailed presentations of early Maori and colonial ventures, such as mutton bird and whale hunts, plus a walk-through of a family scene in a bush hut and a timber felling hut. Maori, European and Chinese history is interwoven on this far south coast. The museum's locally produced video, in a 'sailing ship' cinema, is not to be missed. We were here a good hour.

  A delightful little place. We stopped off at the gift shop to buy some souvenirs which make great gifts at reasonable prices. The lady at the counter was very friendly and helpful.

  Great host on the day introducing us to the history of Aparima(Riverton) Paid $8 per adult for the museum part. Very well maintained museum.

  The most amazing museum in New Zealand, we spent a lot of time with the kids and the gemstone area. Which is really targeted to any young person or young at heart or anyone that's interested in New Zealand precious stones. Aswell I I loved the interactive video at the beginning, I felt like I had gone back in time to be fair and created a great story for me to teach my children about the history of New Zealand as this is one of the earliest settlements in terms of Europeans to New Zealand. It is a must if you go to Southland
