::The Te Motu winery is a culinary jewel in the crown of beautiful Waiheke Island. My chicken liver parfait accompanied by braised peaches, an excellent jelly of elderflower and housemade bread was an epiphany excelling all my expectations. Steeled by this experience I awaited my main course to be of excellency but even this was outperformed: The Wagyiu steak coming with three different types of beetroot, tiny blobs of blue cheese sauce and some absolutely fresh watercress brought the promises of heaven to earth. The quality of meet (and believe me, I know what I'm talking about) was fantastic. But still there was a desert pending. And it was a local cheese, fresh, but of an impressing intensity in taste that could only be captured by the locally raised plums braised with thyme. If there had only been food this would have been a very good meal, but the house made wine (a red te motu 2009 for the meet and, most surpringsingly excellent, a desert wine called “Nectar”), the beautiful view and the excellent service (with an pleasant french accent) made this an unforgettable experience. And yes: The kitchen is tiny and if the place is overcrowded there may be a delay. But who cares to be waiting in this ambience for excellent food.

::We walked here after doing beer and wine tastings at Tantalus. We were planning on doing a tasting but it was $20 which was refundable if a bottle worth $40 or more was purchased. This put me off as the price of the wine I like was $35. Instead we had a glass of wine and something to eat. Good attentive service in a lovely garden like setting. The Rose wine was lovely

::After reading the great reviews of Te Motu, we were disappointed by our time here. Our visit started off well with a tasting on the Terrace. However, after ordering some food the experience went downhill. Two meals arrived out of four to our table with promises that the food for the other two members in our group would be out soon. About 45 minutes later one more meal showed up with more promises that the last meal would be out soon. After another 45 minutes we left with one hungry member because we were only on Waiheke for the day and didn't want to waste any more time. It is understandable that the kitchen gets busy, but setting more realistic expectations or having a bit better organization would have made a better experience. No one wants to be hungry on a day of winery visits!
