::During the school holidays I took my daughter here. Gold coin donation, plenty of interactive exhibits and lots to see, feel and learn. Showed my daughter the Waihene ferry sinking, watched the video and she learnt a little more than what she heard at preschool. Very cool place, would definitely recommend to families travelling with young and teenage children. Loads to do! Make sure you check out the attic!!

::One of the places you could spend a good half or an hour if visiting nearby spots by the harbour. There are only a handful of tourists around when I was there, exactly the opposite scenario as there was at Te Papa Museum. Most of the exhibits could be generalised as about the trade and maritime history of Wellington. Also has a small gift shop where you can purchase some souvenir items. Not really a must see place for me but if you got the time, would still be worth visiting.

::Great museum! Well laid out exhibits with good signage. Definitely don't miss the top floor "attic" as it has some of the most fun stuff, and the film presentations are very well done. There are so many interesting tidbits that there's sure to be something interesting for everyone.

::Highly recommend to book or join the Ship ân Chips tour that starts at 11am everyday. Itâs great value at $49 with a 50 min guided tour in the Museum and a ferry that brings you to Sommeâs Island and back, including takeaway Fish n chips arranged by the museum. The museum is quite big @ 3 stories high So it would be good to go earlier to have your own walk as the 1 hour tour by them is not sufficient to see everything although itâs great to have a guide. Sommeâs Island was a good 3 hours walk around leisurely. You may not be able to book from their website but you can just call or show up to join the tour, when we were here there was just 2 of us making it a private tour! Definitely a hidden gem for seeing Wellington and a great way to spend the day other than seeing the city.
