::I choose this because I had stayed at the Distinction in Dunedin, which is excellent. This however is not. Check in was a disaster. The lady, who admittedly was new, had no clue what to do with my (US) credit card. Then they sent me to the wrong building. The room was fine. The bar had a decent choice of beer, and the food was okay. The place is clearly old and showing its age. Everything was industrial carpeting with some rather dubious stains. Okay for a night and close to some nice shops just over the river but wouldn’t stay longer.

::This review is full of both good and bad. First and foremost your reception & customer service is AMAZING!! The receptionist at the time I had stayed there was so lovely and respectful 10/10 from me. Okay rooms, I feel personally that the distinction needs a bit of maintenance and upgrading all in all my room was clean. The indoor pool 0/10. My favourite part of hotel hopping is the different pools they offer well this pool Doesn't look the same as the pictures and I only swam in the pool for 15min before being asked to leave the pool so I give it a zero. B&B breakfast is perfect YUM YUM YUMMY. All & all this place is amazing

::Decent accommodation. Well located near the great cafes in the town basin and reasonably priced. Plenty of onsite parking. Sky sports in room. Didn't try the food or bar so I can't say what they're like. Would return.

::The Distinction is like a relic from the late 1970s. I don't think the interior has had a refresh since then. It's a nice enough place overall, but you'd got the feeling they've been making do for 40 years. The room service meal of lamb curry was very nice, if a bit expensive, because it's room service....plus a surcharge because it's room service. That's all forgivable. What isn't forgivable was the bed. It's clearly years past it's best before date. We could feel the spring frame inside the mattress through the padding and the mattress does under our bums. You can skimp on interior redecorating for a few decades, but for goodness sake don't skimp on the beds.
