I'm going to describe the half-day Wellington valley movie tour and let you decide: We were picked up at our hotel by a very nice and outgoing man named Ted in a comfortable van that seats about 15 people and has a TV. He showed clips from the movies with the sets we were visiting, a fan video ("We're taking the hobbits to Isengard") and a "making of" about horses in LOTR that I believe is a DVD extra. We first drove to the entrance to a working quarry, where some of Minas Tirith was filmed. Because this was over 15 years ago, be aware none of the sets are left. Ted had a big book of stills from the movie to show what the sets looked like. We then stopped at a gas station, where Ted picked up Subway sandwiches and cookies for lunch. We then visited a park where part of Isengard was filmed. Ted pointed out a few of the trees which are still there which were in the movie. Then, we went to the creek where Aragorn washed up, and walked down the path a bit to see a friendly alpaca. Finally, we had lunch where part of Rivendell was filmed. They rebuilt one of the arches in the style of the movies, but remember, none of the original sets are left. We ate our Subway sandwiches and had some time to explore the park on our own. It was very pretty. We then drove back to Wellington.
